We fixed a time and date for her interview and this young lady walked in with grace and poise. Girded with knowledge that is quite marveling for a young woman of her age,we got talking and bubbling about our similarities and passions before we got down to business. Ibi Fiberesima,the CEO of Fibi Bakes and nominee KampusTvNg Awards 2018 is an extraordinary 19 year old who is consistently converting passion to profit. She is one of the many Nigerian youths who are embracing entrepreneurship and are going the extra mile to lay solid financial foundations.Read all about how her entrepreneurial journey began below.
How did your passion for baking start?
I grew up in an environment where baking and catering services thrived.My grandma is a baker,my dad is a chef and my mom cooks very well.As a child I watched my neighbors bake every Saturday and started developing the passion for it. When I got to Secondary School,I had the opportunity to study Food & Nutrition and it further fueled my passion for baking.I gained admission to university and I saw a lot of my friends doing things to make money,I got inspired and thought if they could make profit from passion then I could start something as well. I began by selling cakes in school,I would walk round classes looking for customers to buy my cakes.My love for independence and entrepreneurship stimulated me to start something.
How long have you been in business?
For 2 years.I started in 2015 when I was in my first year with cupcakes,desserts and drinks I sold in school but my main business and visibility began this year.
How are you able to combine business and school?
1) Time investment -I invest my time wisely because I believe you can’t manage time but invest it
2) A to-do list
3) I do everything about school during the day and bake at night
Who is your target market?
Students are my major clients.
How much does your cupcakes/birthday cakes cost?
6 cupcakes-1800, 12 cupcakes-3600,18 cupcakes-7200,24 cupcakes-8400,3 inches cake-3000 naira,6 inches cake-6000 naira,8 inches cake-8000 naira and 10 inches cake-10000. All prices are very negotiable.
Tell us how you came about the name Fibi Bakes:
I took the F from my surname Fiberesima and changed it to Fabulous,then I added it to my first name Tamunoibi which means ‘God is good’ to get my brand name: Fibi Bakes.
What do you think about business in Port Harcourt?
Business here is not so rosy because there are many bakers in Port Harcourt although it motivates me to keep working hard and carve out a niche for myself.
Your biggest support comes from?
My mom,my siblings,my friend Raphael Ben and God.
Where do you get most of your clients?
Referrals,Whatsapp contacts,course mates and Facebook.
What do you do while working?
1) I listen to messages from Bishop T.D Jakes,Myles Munroe and Chidi Courage

In 3 years time,Fibi hopes to:
Get a cake studio for training secondary school students,a baking material store,I want to train 100 people who are passionate about baking and I want to be an authority in baking in Port Harcourt.
Where does your motivation and inspiration come from?
The Holy Spirit,the messages I listen to,books I read(I read a lot on leadership,finances and prosperity) and the drive to be independent.
What is your advice to aspiring student entrepreneurs?
If you can multi-task go ahead,know your strengths and weaknesses,know how to plan,know how to invest your time arm yourself with skills.
